NFL Pro Legend Takeo Spikes has a lot to celebrate these days! Not only is he known as one of the most amazing linebackers to play in the National Football League, but he’s now added Author to his resume. On June 4th at a private location, Bold Favor was in the building to capture Takeo Spikes “Official” book signing. His sponsors included Righteous Guitars, Legendary Events, UPS, Minuteman Press, “W” Atlanta Midtown, Goldleaf Transportation, Bently Atlanta, Replenish, Taco Cowboy, Michael Varzi, Takeo Photography and One Hand Productions. We will tell you right now he didn’t do it alone and boy did he put on a grand affair, it was impressive to say the least! That’s right, hundreds of supporters, friends, colleagues and family came out to support the NFL Pro Legend on his new book “Behind the Mask!” Which is a book highlighting his story as well as a few stories from many of NFL’s greatest football players two of who were not only featured in his book, but who were also very present at Takeo’s book launch last night. Dressed dapper as ever the two legends took the stage and brought such positive vibes to the evening.
NFL Legends Bobby Bell and Willie Lanier are two of many of the featured football players in Spikes book “Behind the Mask.” When asked what influenced his decision to go ahead and allow Takeo Spikes to do a complete interview with him Bobby Bell replied “ Well I did my research and looked you up, Takeo Spikes. I saw what you were doing on the field and off the field and I was impressed with both.”
While working the room, I spoke to a few of the attendees and noticed many of his male friends look at him as a brother like Walter Stith who was there with his book to support and explained that Spikes was his mentor and would show up to his camp during football practices to help him with his plays. That to me says a lot about Takeos character. Also Super Bowl Champ Deon Grant who received a nice donation check from the NFL Pro for his Foundation.
Just in case you didn’t know, Takeo Spikes is a huge giver and as a matter of fact, at last night’s book launch an auction took place and all money raised was donated to the Deon Grant Foundation which is a national youth bullying and abuse prevention movement to help save young daughters and sons created by Super Bowl Champion Deon Grant.
The venue was gorgeous filled with photos of many NFL greats, beautiful up lights in multiple colors, a live band, delicious hors d’oeuvres and food from gourmet chefs a lovely dessert table as well as a drink bar. Let’s just say we were not hungry when we left, we were very fulfilled!
I was very impressed with Takeo for his humbleness and appreciation for everyone in his life who had a hand in the success of this book being created. He personally and publicly thanked everyone who helped him by either calling them up to the stage or shouting them out over the microphone. One of the things that stood out as well during Takeos speech was the fact that he had no idea he could write like this. He shared a story on how a simple paper he wrote in one of his college classes was placed on the board in front of the entire class by the instructor and used as the example writing piece the instructor expected everyone in that class to produce. During his speech Takeo said ” That’s my work on the board?” That’s when he knew he wanted to someday write a book.
He also shot many of the photos in his book himself. Takeo explained how he began to love photography which explains “Takeo Photography”. Spikes mom was there snapping photos and taking shots of the venue and it was very sweet when Takeo said his love for taking pictures came from watching his mother taking pictures many years ago. His exact words were “My mom would take great photos but those photos were always blurry, so I’d grab the camera and say mom let me show you how to take a picture.” (Laughs). He also called his lovely daughter out for really pushing him to be better in photography. He mentioned, he didn’t know it but his daughter noticed his love for taking pictures and for Father’s Day got him a brand new really nice camera and he uses it proudly.
There were so many great moments and we could speak on this event for days but what we want to leave you with is the love Takeo Spikes has for people and for following his passions. This book “Behind the Mask” means a lot to him so make sure you pick up your copy and support this book. If we can support him on the field then I say let’s support him off the field!
